Acne Removal

How does one remove acne? Actually you don’t remove or cure acne, you control it.  Unfortunately there is no quick fix miracle cure.   Acne does not go away in a few hours or even a few days.  Many treatments can take several weeks to manage.  Fortunately almost every case of acne can be treated and resolved.  But it takes time.  And what works for some does not work for others.

Gently washing the face or affected area twice a day helps to keep skin clear.  Topical solutions such as over the counter creams and lotions with salicylic acid and benzyl peroxide can work to dry up the oils that clog pores.  When those are not effective, consulting a dermatologist can help.  Prescription medications that are applied to the skin such as topical antimicrobials like benzyl peroxide, clindamycin, or erythromycin will treat the bacteria that attribute to acne break outs.  Topical retinoids prevent the formation of blackheads and white heads and actively work to unclog pores.  Trentonin or Aldapene are some generic names of topical retinoids.

Oral medications like antibiotics or contraceptives work internally to help heal and control the skins inflammatory response.   For severe cystic or nodular acne, that is resistant to other methods, there is Isotrentonin or Accutane.  This medication is associated with many side effects and is often used when other methods fail.  Cystic acne is important to get control over in the early stages.  Cysts or nodules that become severely inflamed can rupture which can produce scars.

Early treatment is the best defense against removing acne.  The milder the case the easier and quicker it is to treat.   Consultation with a dermatologist is wise when over the counter methods have proved ineffective.
